The double-orifice mitral valve, a rare congenital or acquired anomaly, is characterized by a single fibrous annulus that results in 2 orifices. First described by British pathologist William Smith Greenfield in 1876, double-orifice mitral valves have been the subject of limited literature, consisting primarily of case reports and small necropsy-based case series. Typically asymptomatic, the anomaly allows normal blood flow between the 2 chambers of the left heart; however, symptoms may arise due to mitral valve dysfunction, such as stenosis or regurgitation.

A Case of Congenital Double Orifice Mitral Valve Combined With Bicuspid Aortic Valve in the Elderly Patient.
Double orifice mitral valve (DOMV) is a very rare cardiac lesion that presents primarily as a left ventricular inflow tract lesion, often combined with outflow tract lesions such as bicuspid aortic valve, aortic stenosis, and subaortic stenosis. However, reports involving DOMVs are rare. Echocardiography is the primary method of examination of DOMVs. This article focuses on describing the case of congenital double-orifice mitral valve combined with bicuspid aortic valve in an elderly patient.
